I have friends of friends who live in this building and I hear it's basically been gutted which is really sad. It really is a landmark in that area of the city.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the Belvedere website shows many grand interior spaces still intact and looking magnificent, from the lounges to the lobby to the ballroom. I presume the developers had to gut the former guest rooms in order to make adequate sized apartments and office spaces. Still a much much better solution than demolition. After seeing so many wonderful hotels posted on this site that no longer are extant, I consider this to be a happy compromise.

ReplyDeleteWhen people ask me where to go in Baltimore, I *always* recommend The Owl Bar. The place has real charm, and if you're just drinking, no real harm can come of it.
