'Wingfield'

'Wingfield', the John Henry Towne estate designed by Bigelow & Wadsworth c. 1910 in Mount Kisco, New York. Towne was chairman of the board of the Yale & Towne Manufacturing Company, a company co-founded by his father. Click HERE for more on the gardens of 'Wingfield'. I do not know if the house is extant.

I believe this house is extant and was for sale a few years back. Ginnel Real Estate had the listing. Appeared in excellent condition with few changes in appearance.

Marvelous house. Unusual to see something by Bigelow and Wadsworth, whose style is very recognizable, so far west of Massachusetts.

PS, the incomparable Fletcher Steele was commissioned to renovate the landscape a few years later. Many pictures here: http://books.google.com/books?id=joPpQMTJoZsC&lpg=PA36&dq=fletcher%20steele%20wingfield%20mt.%20kisco&pg=PA36#v=onepage&q&f=false

Devoted Classicist, wasn't this one of your projects with decorator Mario Buatta in the 1990's?
