'Shadow Brook Farm'

'Shadow Brook Farm', the Dr. Ernest Fahnestock estate designed by Harrie T. Lindeberg c. 1909 in Shrewsbury, New Jersey. Fahnestock was an honorary police surgeon and doctor. He shot himself in the head at the age of 60 in his Manhattan townhouse at 954 Fifth Avenue in 1937 (though his death was listed as accidental it sure seems like a suicide). The Manhattan townhouse was razed later that year and replaced with a Rosario Candela apartment building (955 Fifth). Today 'Shadow Brook Farm' operates as 'Shadowbrook', a wedding/banquet hall. Well it avoided being swallowed whole by encroaching suburbia.

Interesting to see that all the outdoor living space, on both the first and second floors, is located on the front of the home, ignoring the large formal garden with one half of the home having service rooms overlooking the garden.

I must say...it seems to have avoided much of the tackiness accociated with wedding halls.

Nice home. All those buffet spreads featured on the website made me extremely hungry
