The links are indeed fantastic.

Definitely one of the great cultural institutions of NYC. Founded when Brooklyn was a rival city to New York (prior to 1898) and great civic structures (Brooklyn Borough Hall), museums (Brooklyn Museum of Art), monuments (Grand Army Plaza) and parks (Prospect Park) were built to rival the city across the river. Since the early 1970's the revitalization of Clinton Hill, Fort Greene and many other historic brownstone neighborhoods has spurred Brooklyn's rebirth. Restoring the Academy's cornice was icing on the cake.
